Early in the development and design of a pharmaceutical product, one is faced with the choice of selecting packaging materials. In the choice of injection bottles, one of the most intuitive parameters is the nominal volume and full volume, what is meant by nominal volume? Common sense is to identify the volume (bottle manufacturers drawings or material description on the "2ml" or "2R", such as ISO8362-1, Table 1 shows); and full-mouth volume, said the limit of filling, how much can be loaded. In addition to some standardized nominal volume, but also involves the design of the bottle mouth: EBB, NBB and ABB, today we will talk about this topic.




In ISO 8362-1, some basic parameters are specified for injection bottles of different nominal volumes as a reference. There is a digression, why is it called a few R's? After checking, there is a word in French called Récipients, which means container in English, so for example, 2R means 2ml container.

In addition to the above size requirements, the following is the focus of today, that is, the design of the bottle mouth, the bottle mouth is divided into NBB, no anti-skipping stopper design; EBB, European anti-skipping design and ABB, American anti-skipping design (Figure 1-NBB, Figure 2-EBB, Figure 3-ABB).

For NBB, the bottle is flat with the mouth down, while for EBB, it is protruding and then flat, and for ABB, the bottle is pitted and then flat with the mouth down.
